Member Associations – Non Hosts
BWF and BADMINTONPHOTO are pleased to give Member Associations (MAs) which are NOT hosts for the HSBC BWF World Tour (levels 1 to 5), the BWF Tour Super 100 (level 6) or BWF Major Events an opportunity to access to Badmintonphoto’s (BP) live wire (Badmintonwire.net) for the price of US$500 per year. The wire is where photos will be uploaded from all major tournaments in 2018-2021.
Before using our services and after agreeing to pay US$500 for one year, each Member Association must fill in an online form and understand the principles of this offer, which allows extended rights for non-commercial use. This form is mandatory before we set up an account for your use of this service..

FAQ FOR THIS SERVICE
HOW DOES THE WIRE WORK ?
Once the online form has been filled, each Member Association will receive a e-mail with an account (up to three acounts per MA) to access the wire with a specific login and a password which will give them access to our live platform of photos. Photos are updated live from each event, each day as the day goes by (the frequency depends on the number of matches, the internet speed, etc), but images are usually uploaded between 2 to 4 hours after each match is finished, sometimes sooner (after each final for instance)
HOW TO DOWNLOAD IMAGES FROM THE WIRE ?
You can simply use the search tool once you have logged in. You can search for a specific player using his/her official name (the one on tournament software), or the country of your MA and « submit ». The lastest images will show up first. You then have different options to download images. You can download the low resolution images (for all online uses) by clicking on the « L » icon (for direct download of just one image) or on the « L »icon with the caddy icon, if you want to download more than one image at the time. Once you have selected all the images you need, you can then go and check out your cart and download a zip folder with all images. The same principle applies with high resolution images (click on the « H »)
WHAT IS COVERED BY BADMINTONPHOTO IN EACH TOURNAMENT ?
As we can not cover all matches, the contract with BWF guarantees the following :
Day 1: 100 photos (if only qualifiers, however depending on number of matches in qualification rounds); 150 photos (if first-round matches also)
Days 2 and 3: 130 photos daily (primarily good action shots; some ‘celebration’ shots; both players/pairs if a match is covered; as many upsets as possible)
Days 4-6: 120 photos daily (on average minimum 60% of all quarter-finals; 75% all semi-finals (all winners) and 100% of finals – including all presentations)
Major Events: 130 photos daily (on average minimum all quarter-finals; all semi-finals and finals – including all presentations)
Number of players: an average of minimum 70 different players (including pairs) over the first two days (qualifiers and first rounds) assuming a full draw of 32 in each of the five categories.
CAN WE ASK BADMINTONPHOTO TO SHOOT OUR PLAYERS/OFFICIALS SPECIFICALLY ?
Unfortunately, as we have only one photographer per event (except major BWF Events), it is impossible to satisfy all requests, but we will try to have a good balance of each nation for random players, on top of the minimal requests included in our contract with BWF – for upsets and quarter finals, semi finals and finals. So, direct requests can not be made directly to Badmintonphoto. However, should you need something specific for a particular event, feel free to contact the communication staff at BWF, who will forward us your request when possible.
WHAT CAN MEMBER ASSOCIATIONS DO WITH BP’s IMAGES ?
- Use our low resolution images with watermark on all your online platforms for live or archive news (official website, tournament website, all social network platforms)
- Use our high resolution images (with copyright mention mandatory at all times) for your posters, banners, inside or outside campaigns, flyers, post cards, or when you use them as part of the design of your websites
- Use our high resolution images to send together with a press release for media to use for free (the media must mention the copyright of Badmintonphoto if they want to use it for free). You can use up to one image per press release per day, or one press release with 5 images on finals day (5 images per tournament). If you need to send more, please contact us.
WHAT MEMBER ASSOCIATIONS CAN NOT DO :
- Give our images to any third party (players, sponsors, clubs, officials, private leagues – PBL, Superliga, China League, Purple League, etc - or any commercial brands)
- Give our images to media (except when a high resolution image is sent together with a press release with mandatory copyright mention)
- Use our images for commercial purposes (items sold such as merchandise, clothing, programs, etc)
DO WE HAVE TO MENTION BADMINTONPHOTO’s COPYTRIGHT AT ALL TIMES ?
Yes, this is a basic rule in photography, just like a book or an article – when used – the author or the Agency of the work has to be named. When you use BP’s images for websites or online publications, then you will just download images in low res (by clicking on the « L » under the thumbnail) with our watermark (logo) on the left inside. This is to prevent third party to « steal » our images. No need to add a copyright mention then, because it’s already on the photo.
When you use our images to create a poster, a banner, or when you use high resolution images for printed material (programs, flyers, etc), it is mandatory that you write down the copyright mention as follow » ©Badmintonphoto » or « Photo(s) by Badmintonphoto ». You can have it printed it in small letter, somewhere on the bottom/top/side of the printed material. For programs, you can put the credit under each photo or at the bottom of each page where BP’s images are being used. If copyright mention is forgotten on a regular basis, BP reserve the right to limit/cancel the access to its database.
Also, your MA will need to put a Badmintonphoto logo on their main page with a link to our main page www.badmintonphoto.com
CAN WE USE IMAGES OF PLAYERS THAT ARE NOT FROM OUR MA ?
Yes, all images are ok for you to use (other players, non playing images, etc). This is a good tool also to put live news on your website with photos of the world’s top stars, but you can also use illustration images. You can find those non playing images under different keywords such as « shuttlecock, racket, injury, medical, indoor, outdoor, stadium » etc)
CAN MEDIA USE BP’s IMAGES ?
As part of the contract with BWF, we have mutually agreed that Member Associations could send out a high resolution image as part of a press release. This is a good tool for promotion and this image sent out will be free of editorial rights. However, the media you send it to have an obligation to mention the copyright if they want to use it for free. Please remind them that they have to put the copyright mention in the email. BP’s images that are sent together with Press releases are not be altered/cropped – they have to be the ones that you download directly from BP’s wire (using the « H » icon under thumbnail). High resolution images have informations within the files (name of photographer, agency, name of player, country) which will help the media for their captions, but feel free to write your own caption together with the press release.
MA’s can not send BP’s images to any media if this is not part of a press release (for archive photos, or specific needs from media, feel free to give them our contact : email@example.com)
WHAT IF WE WANT TO USE IMAGES FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES ?
If your Member Association wishes to make some profits and, for example, wants to sell goodies or programs using our images (images can be used by MAs freely for products that are not sold), then the use becomes a commercial use, and rights have to be cleared, both with Badmintonphoto (authors rights), but also with the players (image rights). If a third party (a sponsor, commercial brand, etc) wants to use our images, please send them our contact and we will send them our list of prices.
If you have any questions, doubt, send us an email : firstname.lastname@example.org
We hope that you will enjoy our services for the 4 years to come !
